Surfing Linda Mar September 6, 2009

Had a great foggy, cold and crowded surf at Linda Mar today. We got to the beach just before high tide crested so the surf was better than it was on Friday. Being a Sunday and a holiday the break was packed. We found a spot just north of the bathrooms without too many people. Emily really started getting used to her new board! She caught several waves and paddled hard to the outside once. She said she felt really comfortable padding, but seemed to have a knee drag issue on pop-ups. Still she stood up on 3 waves on her first real day of surfing on her new board.

I got stuck in some spot where a dad on his foamy was screaming directions to his kids learning to surf, and this dude that kept bailing his board and diving under the wave without looking around. I had several close ones dodging both of their boards. I just kept thinking, “why did I leave my helmet in the car”. After that I moved down to where Emily was – about 200 yards north and finally caught my first wave. Then everything was awesome. We both had a great time today!

Before surfing I ate a whole foods bean, cheese and rice burrito and a banana and felt great. After surfing I had a Naked Juice high protein mango smoothy and a Tofurkey sandwich. Also felt great!

Surfline surf report for this afternoon – Expect waves right around waist high this afternoon with larger sets (chest-shoulder high) at the better spots. Conditions aren’t that great with onshore wind and textured, crumbly conditions. A fat high tide keeps things on the swamped side. Buoys reading 5ft @ 10sec. The winds were NW @ 8kts.
