I look at this quote the same way, but have chosen a positive light. Artists are influenced by the environment we live in. I find this especially true about my studio. As visual artist, we observe everything with our conscious and unconscious mind, taking it all in. These observations and impressions are filed in our creative inmaginations to use and improve, combining them with other images and experances, to create a unique way of looking at life. My art may be made of the old, but MY experances make its viewing new and exciting. Apple pie is not new, but a different mix of apples and spices brings a fresh new excitment to one's palette.

Thank you!!! "Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul."

I have been feeling guilty about allowing others work and style to enter my creative process!

Two projects that I have had on "hold" are going forth today!!!

King Solomon, the wisest man who walked this earth, said a long, long, time ago,
"What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun." Ecc 1:9-This stands true today. There is no true originality, but there is truth. Our perception of what we see, hear, smell, taste, feel with our 5 God given senses, is truth to us; and how we express this truth, is who we are.

It's not only what you steal or process into your visual vocabulary, it's how you take the stimuli into yourself and transform it with your own voice. That's where you need to keep watch of your authenticity and motivation. It's good to see things as a child see them, delighting in the nuances.
I also think it's important to be open to all kinds of stimuli because you never know where that spark is going to come from. I'm currently intrigued by the patterns of reflections on building. This hasn't made its way into my work yet, but I'm curious if it will and how.
