Sunny and Windy Surf at the HMB Jetty

We got to the Jetty around 1 pm which turned out to be a bit late for the good stuff. It was a beautiful sunny and warm day, however, the wind was picking up the entire time we were there. This made for less than ideal surf conditions. The wind was about 17 kits, but it was kind of fun to have the spray hit me in the back of the head when I was sitting on my board on the outside a few feet from the break zone.
While I didn’t catch any rides today I did get to experience something on the shortboard I hadn’t before. When we first got there I paddled to the outside with the hopes of catching a real ride. I sat on my board for about five minutes watching the waves and then a good one came right at me. I paddled several times as hard as I could and low and behold my board popped right through the ledge. It seemed like I was on it and tried to pop up, however, my back foot hit the traction pad first and I fell off the back. I think I needed maybe two more stokes and I would have made it. I also caught one awesome stomach ride from the outside to the beach. All in all a fun day.

Regional Summary: WNW wind/groundswell mix tops out as old SSW energy lingers in the background. Winds are steady out of the NW this morning making for textured/sloppy conditions across most of the region. Better breaks are running in the chest-shoulder-head high zone with larger sets for top exposures in the 2-3′ overhead range. Expect conditions to worsen through the day as onshore flow becomes breezy out of the NW.
