Coastside Tour with Emily
Today I hooked up with Emily’s Tours for a look at many of the surf breaks between The Jetty and south Half Moon Bay. After seven years in the city we’re starting to consider what it would be like to live closer to the surf. HMB, El Granada, and Moss Beach are all on our list of places to look at. No decisions have been made yet, so at this point we’re thinking about it.
Fast Rides and Surfing Legends
We had another beautiful day in Oahu today. We headed out a bit later than usual today as conditions were still sort of small with long periods between swells. About half way through the session I caught one really fast wave from the outside. It was so fast there was spray shooting up on both sides of my board.
Small Swell With Rights and Lefts in HI
The swell was small today with long waits between sets. As a local told us – long waits mean bad surf on the South Shore. I still caught two really nice waves today. The first was shortly after we made it to the outside. As I got to the middle there was a surf instructor and a student right in front of me. I made a nice left turn around them, and the instructor yelled out, “nice job brah!”
The next one was right at the end of the session as I was paddling in. I caught it somewhere in the middle, and it was a solid right. Again, there was a surf instructor and a student right in front of me. I made a hard left turn and started going left. A few seconds later a student on a …
Surfing The New Board in Oahu
Took my new custom Bruce Jones board out to Canoes today, and had an awesome time. The swell that was here yesterday had pretty much dried up, however, Emily and I managed to catch a few nice ones. The session started out a bit slow as we sat around in the sun and warm water for about an hour before some rideable sets started to roll in (poor us).
We both caught some nice waves. I got an awesome green wave near the end where I caught it forward, and then turned right. Woot! The lesions with M & M paid off. :) Looking forward to tomorrow.
Last Day With the Saint of Seal Beach
All things considered this has been the best four days of surfing I’ve ever had, and M & M Surf School is the first place that has actually taught me how to surf. I’ve learned how to paddle properly and can now angle or turn into a right or a left. Hats off to them.
Today my paddling felt like I was gliding across the water and riding a right or left started to feel natural. Emily and I intend on coming back here once a month to keep polishing our skills and learning new techniques. Thanks to M & M for a great time!!!
Seal Beach Rocks
Yet another stellar day of surfing at Seal Beach today. I scored one left, and seven rights in about two and a half hours thanks to more great coaching from M & M Surf School. I was on a slightly smaller board today which I really enjoyed, and turned a bit better. Once again Michael junior was a hoot. I’m going to miss his coaching when I’m gone. Awesome day!

Big Sale on Rights and Lefts Today
Yes, that’s right there was a huge sale on rights, and lefts today at Seal Beach, and I had a pocket full of cash. I caught more solid rides today than any other day in my life. I went left, right, down the line from the outside all morning.
Now if you think this is because all of a sudden I became an awesome surfer overnight – you would be wrong. This great session is a testament to the outstanding instruction at M & M Surf School. Both Michael senior and junior are great teachers – I really can’t say enough great things about them.
As I said this was a stellar day for me. I got many rights, and lefts where I started out paddling that way. Then I got an awesome ride where I started out on a …
Bolsa Chica and Huntington
Drove from Seal Beach to Huntington today, and my mind was totally blown. SO CAL is so awesome. The beaches are insane, and there is rideable surf & parking everywhere. :)
Surf Camp Day One
Had an awesome session at surf camp today with M & M Surf School. We met up at 8:00 am in the parking lot at Seal Beach. There were quite a few students, but we were broken up into smaller groups depending on our abilities. Emily and I were lucky as we both got Michel Junior. At first he came off as a bit crazy, however, he turned out to be the best surf instructor that I’ve ever seen.
The awesome thing about M & M is they really listen to where you are in your surfing and work towards making you a better surfer. Until today I had never scored a solid standing right or left. By the end of the morning I had one right and four lefts. Crazy fun!
This is going to be a fun week. :)
