More Sun and Fun at Linda Mar

We had another nice sunny warm day today at the beach. The waves were a bit small, and there was a long period between sets, but we both had a great time! The other strange thing is there was only about 18 other surfers in the water when we got in. By the time we got out, and changed it was starting to get totally packed.

The waves were a bit soft, but there were lefts and rights to be had. Em caught 4 and I got 1. In my book all that matters is to get in the water and come out with a big smile. I did both. :)

Fast Times at Linda Mar High

Fast Times at Linda Mar High

I know what you’re say to yourself. What a stupid surf journal title. But, there is method to my madness. Fast times refers to only having 40 minutes to surf today, Linda Mar is where I surfed, and high is catching 3 rights in 40 minutes.

As a bonus it was sunny, and the wind was offshore. The waves were fairly solid, clean, and there was a nice right working where we were. It was one of those days where you catch one paddle back out, and catch another one. Good times!

Later in the evening we attended our first Pedro Point Surf Club meeting. Great people and and awesome organization. :)

More Fun and More Rights

More Fun and More Rights

The area we surfed at Linda Mar today was sort of small, and very soft. However, it was sunny and warm – loving the indian summer! It was breaking close to the beach, so you had to be going in a direction if you wanted ANY time on the wave. I ended up with three short, but fun rights. I’ve been working on my kick out and finally got to decent ones today. Both times I turned my board and splashed my head in the wave before popping out the back. Very fun! The last time I did it in the salad and ended up covered in vegetation from head to toe. Also fun! Em also caught two nice rides today. Perfect before work fun! :)

I Love Surfing With Friends

Between sets

Today we finally met up with @surfergrrl (Cynthia) and @lkilpatrick (Luke) for a morning surf session at Linda Mar. We surfed with Luke once before a little over a year ago, however, we’ve never surfed with Cynthia. Emily and I have followed her surf exploits for over a year now. It was so nice to finally meet her, and her husband Scott. It was also very nice to surf up with Luke again after all this time.

When we got down to the docks we also saw Izzy in the line up. What a fun meet up! Most of LM was just one BIG close out, however, boatdocks still had some rights and lefts working. As a bonus there was only five or six other surfers down there. It was pretty soft today, but if I moved up a bit …

A Little Local Knowledge Goes a Long Way

A Little Local Knowledge Goes a Long Way

When we pulled into the parking lot at Linda Mar it looked a bit crazy. Giant close outs everywhere and tons of peeps in the water. After viewing the forecast and seeing the conditions for seven days in a row we figured the south end would be good. And it was.

It looked like it was packed down there, however, everyone was a bit too far north. We went more south and there was an uncrowded right that was working. I caught seven nice rights and Emily caught six. Emily caught this nice one where she pulled up onto the shoulder going right and then as it closed out she turned left. Awesome ride! Again this was one of the best days at LM ever.

After getting back to the parking lot full of stoke smiles we met Patrick and …

More Sun and Nice Waves

We got to Linda Mar about 10:00 am and spotted some of the PPSC regulars in parking lot. We didn’t hear from Izzy this morning so we figured he was getting ready for Fog Fest this weekend. We talked with Greg for a bit about the PPSC website, and he also introduced us to Michelle as the newest PPSC members. Everyone said they were heading to the south end, so we suited up and headed down the beach.

The waves were a bit smaller than yesterday, but it still seemed very consistent. We were out for about two hours and we both caught some nice rides. One thing I need to work on is not always being on the extreme outside. I’m starting to think I’m missing a bunch of nice rides because I’m waiting for the perfect outside wave. …

Trying Out a New Spot

Trying Out a New Spot

Today was the first WNW groundswell of the fall. Our friend Izzy called this morning and said, “it’s bigger than yesterday and is working at the south end, it’s sunny, and the flag at Taco Bell is barely moving so, get down here”! We were already in the other parking lot and suited up and headed for the south end. We saw Izzy catch a couple of big ones and were wondering if it was getting too big for us, or not.

We were sitting on the beach looking at the waves, and just then we saw Rick who was getting out, and he said, “the left at boatdocks was working, and fun”. We’d never been there but decided to give it a go. Emily was already looking in that direction before we ran into Rick. :)

As we paddled out we …

Small and Glassy at Linda Mar

Small and Glassy at Linda Mar

We got a morning eyes-on surf report call from Izzy this morning, and beat feet to the break as soon as our morning client call was over. There was much less size today, however, it was still sunny and semi-glassy this morning at LM. As we pulled into the parking lot we spotted Izzy in the line-up. He caught a nice right and finished it off with a headstand on his board. Cool.

Before we headed out, he introduced us to Greg who is the President of the PPSC. Again super nice guy! We all seem to have a lot in common. BTW, we sent in our application to the PPSC today. We also said hi to Denise and Rick before we headed to the boat docks for a mellow surf.

When we got to the south end we found …

One of My Favorite Days at Linda Mar

As we pulled into the parking lot we noticed our friend Izzy sizing the waves up with some other PPSC regulars including Denise who we met today. They said there were going to wait a while until there was a bit more water. Emily and I decided to suit up and head for the south end which looked a bit smaller than the middle, but more manageable.

After a short time in the water – Izzy and Denise joined us at the south end for what turned out to be an awesome surf. It seemed a little crowded but as it turns out most of the surfers were from the PPSC. Everyone was sharing waves which was very cool. When we first got to the outside the waves were inconsistent but fun. By the time were about to go in …

Closeouts, Wipeouts and a Nice Ride

Closeouts, Wipeouts and a Nice Ride

When we got to Linda Mar this morning the closeouts were large and in charge. We thought we spotted an area with a few corners and headed out for a go. The first two waves I went for ended in awesome wipeouts, but I wasn’t discouraged. After watching the waves for a bit I thought I was finally in a good position. I caught a nice green wave turned right and rode it all the way to the beach. Nice!

I paddled back to the outside and told this guy who was next to me that he had a couple of nice rides. He said he had a knack for catching wave formed by wind swell and that two weeks ago he had caught 68 rides in one day at LM. Normally I would call bullshit, but the dude was …
