AJAX and PHP File Browser

Friday, September 16, 2005

Do you have a dump folder in your ftp that's always filling up with files, and do you have to download them to see what they are? Or maybe you're savvy enough to have a file browser in that directory but, you still can't view the images or the contents of the files?

fileNice is an AJAX and php file browser that will solve your problems. This free download allows you to see your folder details, make folder comments, search, and view source of code. One of the aspects of fileNice which I think is the most useful is the image handling ability. As a designer I often have folders full of images that I would like to go through in a fast and efficient way. fileNice will do folder specific slideshows of images (without page reloads due to AJAX). It also gives you the ability to send your images to flickr with one click.

Installation is a snap. Just download the fileNice.zip, unpack and upload the folder contents into the directory on your server that you want to be able to browse. That’s it!

Thanks to the developers for a fine app.

Ooh, it looks like an upgraded, ajax version of Apache’s DirectoryIndex.

@sacca - Been there with the gas station egg salad problem. I'm vegan now, but I would still consider those tasty sandwiches a weakness. :)
