SubscribeBeing new to the Ruby on Rails framework I wanted to experiment with some pre-packaged software to get a feel for the new environment. After all, for someone who has building websites for nine years The Ruby on Rails environment is very different than the current web 1.0 environment.
After doing the, ”How to make a todo list program with Rails 0.9” on the RubyonRails website I wanted to install a more powerful rails app to get a feel for its structure.
Typo was the answer. Typo is a lean Ruby on Rails based blog that allows you to post to your blog using a desktop client like MarsEdit or online, using the admin section of your blog. It has all of the standard blog features such as comments, pings, and trackbacks plus many fun and interesting blog additions. An AJAX live search, AJAX comment moderation and instant syndication of all of your favorite social networks ( Flickr, TadaList and del.icio.us just to name a few).
Once I had done the above listed tutorial, the installation of Typo was very simple and straightforward. As a designer I’m always worried that template customization is going to be an issue with a new app. I’m happy to say that the Typo templates are very easy to change due to the Ruby on Rails framework.
If you are considering a Ruby on Rails blog I would highly suggest Typo!
