Last week one of our clients at Ideacodes held a virtual fashion show at their virtual showroom in the online world known as Second Life. Stylehive, which is a a collaborative shopping community purchased land and built their virtual showroom inside of Second Life several weeks ago. Since then they have populated their space with items that users have bookmarked in the hive. These products that they feature in their showroom are not just the user submitted images, they have been rendered in a 3-D program to be exact replicas of the original products. Very cool.

What's even more amazing than just viewing the objects in 3-D is that all of these objects are links back the original bookmark that someone posted in Stylehive. So as you tour the virtual Hive most of the objects that you see you can walk around them, sit on them and touch them virtually. Then you can click on them and go the original post in the Stylehive and find our more information about that particular object. Another feature of Second Life is that you can interact with other virtual people in the same space. Eventually, businesses like Stylehive could have 24/7 virtual helpers in their space to help visitors in their virtual businesses. Virtual personal shoppers? The possibilities are endless.
Second life is virtual space where real world commerce happens on a daily basis. In fact I just saw a CNBC broadcast last week were they were speaking with two entrepreneurs in Second Life that make six figures a year selling virtual land. Their are also numerous other business in Second Life that sell everything from modern homes to tee-shirts.
It takes visionary companies to make a move like this in the virtual world. Stylehive is one of these visionary companies. I've been designing on the web since 1995 and have never quite had the experience I had at Stylehive's virtual fashion show. The show consisted of clothing made for avatars and for sale in Second life. What a great way to monetize your site for your users. Cheers to Stylehive and Second Life.
There was also a very stylish video made inside of Second Life of the Stylehive fashion event. This video comes complete with very smooth camera work shot at multiple angles and a great soundtrack. I've already seen one of the early cuts and it looks fantastic. Stay tuned for the Stylehive fashion show video in the next week or so!

Wow! http://secondlife.com/ is really cool! Would there be a possibility in the future that this will be bought my Google and be integrated in their Google Earth project? Google already has their Sketchup and intergrating SecondLife is a good idea if you ask me.

It does look nice your DesignDemo, but isn’t that quite a long jump?

Thatīs a very funny idea. I think 3D-Rooms presented by the internet can be called “Web 3.0”. Letīs hope the best.
