There are hundreds if not thousands of developers working hard to produce web 2.0 applications, however some are more successful that others. Today I found what I think is one of the most intelligent uses of web 2.0 technology that I've seen so far.
With impressive features and interface design, Netvibes is truly a next generation personal portal. Everything on the page is editable inline via AJAX, and the content is delivered in a very intuitive and usable interface. You can pull in your Gmail, local weather, and rss feeds with just one incredibly fast click. To add content you only need to click the Add content button and the editor pops up in place. Changing existing content is even easier. All you need to do is click on the title and either delete the content area or edit it.
As the development team stated, “The aim of it is to provide a place on the internet where you can set just the content you like, a super easy way of building your personnalized homepage, available anywhere, anytime. No registration is needed, however if you want to access your page from another computer you’ll be able to do it by registering with your email address and a password.”
Features in the works include multiple pages, tag module, bookmark module, and many more. The Netvibes team is very user centered and since launch have added a development blog and a user wiki to help with announcements and feedback.
As I said earlier this is one of the best examples of AJAX and web 2.0 that I’ve seen so far, so please check it out. Special thanks to the French development team for providing us with a beautiful and functional example!

I have to testify to that fact that Netvibes is one of the best in terms of providing the best personal portals. Recently ,I have been developing portals for an annual portal showdown event. To be fair, I will relay this message to others who will partcipate. It is nice to see how they will make the most out of this fantastic application.
Netvibes has some of the best technology, I agree, however recently their servers have gotten slower and slower. :(
